A week-long science and math camp for eight grade girls. Supported in part by a grant from AAUW and facilitated by members of the Tillamook branch of American Association of University Women and the staff of Tillamook Bay Community College.
Date: June 22-28
Location: Tillamook Bay Community College and sleeping dorms at Tillamook County Fairground. The 4-H dorms are just next door to the college. Volunteers are needed to be dorm moms, counselors, teachers, speakers, and helper-facilitators.

Tech Trek Update: Tillamook Branch by Kathy Gervasi (May)
Tillamook AAUW Branch and Tillamook Bay Community College committee members are deep in their planning for the June 22-28th Tech Trek Camp. This nationwide camp focuses on STEM coursework (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) for girls going into 8th grade. The AAUW Branches and campuses selected are New Mexico State University, University of Alabama, Tillamook Bay Comm. College Bowling Green State University, Eckerd College (St. Petersburg, FL), Pacific Lutheran University (WA) Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Tech Trek was started ten years ago in California, and Tillamook Bay Community College is the first Community College to be selected.
Seventy-five girls were nominated by their teachers and forty-three girls completed the application. For two weeks, several Tillamook AAUW Branch members interviewed each girl at their schools. We were so pleased and amazed at the maturity of these girls which made it even more difficult to cut the list to the thirty-six finalists. The attendees are coming from:

Three teachers (two from Tillamook and one from Warrenton) will conduct morning classes in chemistry, biology and math with technology intertwined. Melissa Radcliffe, Curriculum Director for Tillamook School District will be working with the teachers to plan the lessons and curriculum. The girls were excited to hear about the field trip to Evergreen Air Museum in McMinnville where they will spend “A Night in the Museum” sleeping under the airplanes! The Museum provides a curriculum, meals and tours. A variety of STEM workshops are being planned for each afternoon with some opportunities for outdoor hands-on lessons. Professional Night will be a dress-up dinner at the College where the girls will meet and hear from women working in STEM professions. Some fun activities will be a trip to the Tillamook Creamery for ice cream, fireside at the beach and a swim at the Evergreen Aquatic Center. AAUW members will be providing the evening meals at the 4-H dorm where the girls will be staying next door to the college. Free lunches will be provided by Grub Club, a summer feeding program in Tillamook.
