In 2020, we had to cancel Tech Trek due to COVID and in 2021, AAUW National mandated that only virtual Tech Trek camps were allowed. So, our planning team pivoted to offer a STEM day camp that we called the Tillamook County Summer STEM Camp held at Tillamook Bay Community College. For the Tillamook County Summer STEM Camp, we accepted both 7th and 8th grade girls to include those who missed camp last year. We had 18 girls, 16 from Tillamook County and 2 from Lincoln County, attend the 3-day camp which included 6 hours of class (either Cyber Security or Renewable Energy Sources), a variety of workshops (including Veterinary Science, Intro to Flight, Life Under the Sea, and Manufacturing), and full-day at Kilchis Point testing water quality and hiking the trails. Paula Wende did an amazing job again this year, providing daily snacks and lunches in partnership with Grub Club. This camp was possible with funding from the Oregon Community Foundation and the Oregon Coast STEM Hub and with planning and support from OSU Open Campus and Extension, Tillamook Estuaries Partnership, Tillamook Bay Community College, AAUW-Tillamook, Grub Club, and all of our amazing volunteers.
